Which Is Evidence That Supports The Dynamo Theory

Abstract. These lecture notes are based on a tutorial given in 2017 at a plasma physics winter school in Les Houches. Their aim is to provide a self-contained graduate-student level introduction to the theory and modelling of the dynamo effect in turbulent fluids and plasmas, blended with a review of current research in the field.

Dynamo theory studies a conducting uid moving in a magnetic eld; the motion of the body through the eld acts to generate new magnetic eld, and the system is called a dynamo if the magnetic eld so produced is self-sustaining. 1.1 Early ideas point the way In the distant past, there was the idea that the earth was a permanent magnet.

Formal definition. Dynamo theory describes the process through which a rotating, convecting, and electrically conducting fluid acts to maintain a magnetic field. This theory is used to explain the presence of anomalously long-lived magnetic fields in astrophysical bodies. The conductive fluid in the geodynamo is liquid iron in the outer core

What is the Dynamo Theory as it relates to Earth’s magnetic field? – Quora This evidence points out the need for a more dynamic theory of magnetic eld generation, and the best candidate is known as dynamo theory, or mag- netohydrodynamics (MHD). A conductive uid moving through a magnetic eld will feel induced currents due to the changing ux. These will in turn alter the uid motion.
